I stumbled upon a review of the Sorcery 3 and the Sorcery series from Steve Jackson Games. I grew up with SJG (who remembers Car Wars!) and thought Id give this a try.
As a kid, I remember reading the occasional "choose your path" type adventure books. I cant say that I though they were great. but I did enjoy them.
I think the way SJG / Inkle appraoched making a smartphone app from the Sorcery series was acqually quite amazing. The combined reading an interactive decisions and pseudo-role playing was fun and enjoyable.
I was surprised, however, how short the game was. For $4.99, it was far too short and not good value at all. Yes, it was an enjoyable experience, but my goodness Sorcery was over very quickly. Ive taken one star off because of that.
The thing is, because of the poor value, I wont be buying the other chapters. The value proposition was just too low.
yes, I enjoyed the game, but not enough to pay $4.99 for the next two chapters and beyond.
My hats off to Inlke for their ingenuity. Id ask theyd rethink their pricing strategy, but im sure its working for them or else theyd have changed it by now.
A nostalgic throwback and interesting but overpriced app. (if the story line was far longer and more immersive, thatd be a different outcome. But given how short it is, its just not worth the $.)
